One of the most controversial gaming laptops on the market today is the Asus Lamborghini line of notebooks, resembling the design of the famous Italian high-speed cars. Whether you are a fan of the Asus Lamborghini notebooks, or you think they are useless, overpriced and highly pretentious, there is no way you haven’t heard about or commented on one of these laptops. In the following, we will comment ourselves upon the Lamborghini VX7 and we will try to find out if this is really a capable and useful gaming machine or just a way for rich people to show off their financial possibilities.
Design, ports and features
Leaving the passions aside, there is no way you can’t find the VX7’s design brilliant. The lid and rear are specially modified and designed to resemble the Lamborghini Murcielago and the glossy back finish with the Lamborghini logo in the center is aggressive, but very, very beautiful.
Asus has also augmented the vents with clear red plastic slots and the elegant stitching around the black leather palm-rest is another touch of elegance and distinction. On the connectivity front, however, we find our first disappointment, giving that the VX7 doesn’t have a Firewire or eSata port and has only one USB 3.0 port.
Keyboard, touchpad and screen
The keyboard has its upsides, but also its downsides. On one hand, the layout and the chiclet design are very inspired, as it is the presence of a dedicated number pad, but on the other hand, the noise level is somewhat high and you can also notice a bit of flex, a problem that Asus had also at the G53 model.
The touchpad is comfortable and nicely-looking, but it is quite small for a laptop of these considerable dimensions. As far as the screen goes, the 15.6-inch glossy display with a resolution of 1920x1080px offers bright and crisp images with a very high detail level. However, the vertical viewing angles are pretty narrow and you can also expect some reflections when using the laptop in strong light.
Performance, graphics and battery life
After criticizing the Asus VX7 for its keyboard, connectivity and also its display, as far as performance goes we have to take a bow and applaud. The quad-core 2.6-GHz Intel Core i7-2630QM processor, along with the 16 GB of RAM and the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M graphics card with 3GB ofGDDR5 memory make for one of the strongest configuration on the market today. In terms of battery life, however, things look once more a bit shaky, the eight-cell, 5200-mAh device lasting just under three hours in normal conditions.
All in all, it is extremely clear that the Asus Lamborghini VX7 is a visually impressive laptop with a solid performance-based configuration. It has its minor faults, it is quite expensive, but it is a notebook that could make you extremely happy and proud, whether you are a gamer or you just like to own beautiful pieces of equipment like this one.
